I saw your photo of an Australian magpie, and I was struck by how similar and yet different they are from the Alberta variety. This isn't my own picture, but it really caught the iridescence of the wing and tail feathers.Ours just make a terrible shrieking racket, very little mimicry at all. But they're very handsome!

Thanks - the photo of your magpie is appreciated and he is indeed very handsome. I can imagine those feathers in sunshine.
It's interesting that the prettier birds often have the least attractive calls.
